Peter C. Lewis
Chairman & President
Mr. Lewis is Chairman, President and Founder of Wharton Equity. Since its inception in 1987, he has overseen the expansion of the firm’s investment reach across different asset classes and strategies. As Chairman of the Real Estate Investment Committee, Mr. Lewis drives the direction of the firm as it executes its disciplined strategy of recognizing and capitalizing on emerging trends.
Among other initiative over the course of his leadership of Wharton Equity, Mr. Lewis established the firm’s multifamily, self-storage, homebuilding and hospitality platforms resulting in over $1 billion of transactions.
Mr. Lewis has had a diverse career having been employed in investment banking, commercial banking and tax accounting prior to forming Wharton Equity. Besides his real estate activities, he is an active venture capital and private equity investor. Mr. Lewis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his Master in Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. He is a frequent guest lecturer in real estate, and is involved in a number of philanthropic endeavors.
David E. Eisenberg
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Eisenberg is CEO and Co-Founder of Wharton Equity. As head of Wharton Equity’s Miami office he is responsible for overseeing the company’s real estate activities in the Florida market, including sourcing, underwriting, development, and deal execution.
During his career, Mr. Eisenberg has been active in real estate, venture capital and private equity. Prior to Wharton Equity, he founded and ran several successful operating businesses.
Mr. Eisenberg received his Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the A.B. Freeman School of Business Administration at Tulane University and attended the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration. Mr. Eisenberg resides in Miami where he is involved in various philanthropic endeavors.
Norman Cohen plays a key role in operations and the structuring of transactions at the firm. In addition, he spearheads the financing and capital allocation process for south Florida.
Mr. Cohen, a native of South Africa, has over 30 years of experience in commercial and residential property acquisitions, development and diverse corporate transaction structuring in South Africa, Australia and North America. As the co-managing director of Northwest Estates and the founder and CEO of Northwest Finance & Development Company, Mr. Cohen completed property transactions and managed assets in excess of 5 million square feet of commercial, retail and residential space and developed several landmark projects in South Africa.
Mr. Cohen received his BS degree in finance from the University of Maryland and has served on multiple boards in South Africa and the USA. Mr. Cohen’s philanthropic endeavors are conducted through his Directorship as Treasurer for Lalela Project and the Chairman of its Advisory Board. Lalela Project provides educational arts and mentorship for at-risk youth in the townships of Cape Town, Johannesburg, KwaZulu Natal and the communities in Northern Uganda and the South Bronx, New York.
Mr. Kasper is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, executing, and asset managing acquisitions. Mr. Kasper’s prior work experiences include real estate private equity (Madison International Realty), consulting (Cotter & Kavanaugh), boutique investment banking (Cohen & Steers Capital Advisors), and development (Blumenfeld Development Group). Mr. Kasper received a BA in Economics from Cornell University’s College of Arts and Sciences and an MPA in Public Finance from the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs.
Mr. Wolfson is charged with managing Wharton Equity’s investment sourcing and execution in addition to day-to-day operations focused in South Florida. Mr. Wolfson has over 15 years of real estate experience including development, acquisitions, leasing and advisory work. Working both entrepreneurially and with various well-known entities including Gold Krown Fund and Exan Capital, Mr. Wolfson has been involved in transactions totaling over $300 million and 1 million square feet across all asset classes. Mr. Wolfson’s diverse experience includes the ground-up development of 5 multifamily projects, the ground-up development of 300,000 square feet of office, the transactional advisory of a trophy high-rise office and the oversight of a corporate retail development and leasing plan.
Mr. Wolfson earned his Masters in Business Administration from the George Washington University and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He resides in Miami with his wife and children and is active in the community including his service to Miami Neighborhoods United.
Adam E. Krupp
Mr. Krupp is responsible for raising private equity, developing and maintaining new investor relationships and sourcing strategic joint venture partnerships. In addition, Mr. Krupp provides sourcing and due diligence of prospective acquisition and investment opportunities.
During his over 25 year career, Mr. Krupp has been involved in all facets of real estate, including acquisition, development, construction, leasing, asset management, disposition and capital raising. Working both entrepreneurially and with well established firms including; Stone Street Properties, Waterton Residential, Grubb & Ellis, JOBCO and The Glick Organization, he has been involved with the development and acquisition of over $1.5 billion worth of properties across a broad array of asset classes.
Mr. Krupp received his Master of Science in Real Estate Development & Investment degree from New York University’s Shack Real Estate Institute, and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Mr. Stern is responsible for directing Wharton Equity’s hotel investment activities. He has over 25 years of experience in the hospitality sector as investment banker, advisor and principal. During his career, Mr. Stern has been involved in over $2.5 billion of hotel and resort transactions on behalf of a wide range of domestic and offshore investors. Prior to joining Wharton Equity, he held positions at Sonnenblick-Goldman Company, where he co-headed the firm’s lodging group from 1990-2000, and earlier in his career, at the Robert M. Bass Group and Lepercq Capital Partners, where he was responsible for hotel investment analysis, acquisitions and financing.
Mr. Stern received his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University’s School of Business and Public Administration.
Ms. Sperling is charged with managing Wharton Equity’s investor relations department. Her primary responsibilities include facilitating investor distributions, overseeing the investor subscription process, and working closely with asset management to maintain accurate and up to date quarterly investor reporting. Ms. Sperling serves as the key point of contact to the investor community and focuses on building long term relationships with them. Ms. Sperling is also involved in business development, including public relations and advertising. Ms. Sperling attended the University of Wisconsin and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Montclair State University. She also holds a Masters of Science in Business Management from the City University of New York.
Mr. Bergantino is primarily responsible for underwriting, modeling, due diligence, and preparation of investment memoranda with respect to prospective transactions. Prior to joining Wharton Equity, he was an analyst for Starwood Property Trust in their CMBS investing and special servicing businesses. Mr. Bergantino’s experience at Starwood spanned all property types and included underwriting acquisitions of over 2.5 million square feet of real estate across the U.S., negotiation of distressed loan workouts, and asset management of performing loans and REO properties.
Mr. Bergantino received his Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied finance and real estate, and played on UPenn’s varsity football team.
Jonathan A. Mayer
Jonathan Mayer focuses on sourcing opportunities in South Florida, and spearheading the firm’s public relations and investor relations efforts in this market.
Most recently, Mr. Mayer served as principal at Mayer Equity Group, a private equity consulting firm that advised real estate and operating businesses on capital structures and operational growth. Among his assignments, Mr. Mayer advised Eoilco Chemicals on the acquisition and development of the Company’s Miami-based Latin American logistics facility. Prior to Mayer Equity Group, Mr. Mayer was a managing the corporate communications and investor relations Florida division of Burson-Marsteller.
Mr. Mayer is a board member of several companies, including Fly In Style and CMG Management. He serves as an advisory board member of The Launch Pad, a University of Miami business accelerator and incubator.
Mr. Mayer received his Masters in Business & Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton & Fels Schools and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin.
Senior Advisor, Asset Management
During the course of his 24-year career in commercial real estate Mr. Serko has concluded over 750 transactions, consisting of nearly 17 million square feet and a value of nearly $2.0 billion. He has extensive experience with diverse asset classes and property types, and his activities have included development, acquisitions, dispositions and property management. Mr. Serko was Head of Corporate Real Estate for 2 large multinational corporations, where he had responsibility for both their entire North American and International real estate portfolios, comprised of over 40 million square feet, with a combined value in excess of $3.0 billion. Mr. Serko received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College, with Dean’s List distinction, and his Juris Doctorate degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University.
